A.C. Newman-Get Guilty

A.C. Newman Get Guilty:

Solid indie rock,  fairly diverse song arrangements keep this album interesting throughout. Not my favorite album, but its fun and there aren’t any bad tracks.

Rating: 12/15 Catchy tunes

David Saw- Broken Down Figure

David Saw Broken Down Figure:

Confessional acoustic indie pop. Saw writes strong thoughtful lyrics and interesting hooks. Worth picking up.

Rating: 13/15 Myspace stalkers

Franz Ferdinand-Tonight

Franz Ferdinand Tonight:

Another slab of middling disco punk. Theres a glimmer of decent ideas in some of these tracks, but the endless repetition and tepid vocal delivery kill them pretty quickly. Its albums like this that make me want to go back in time, and kill Gang of Four before they released Entertainment.

Rating: 3/15 Angular riffs

Titus Andronicus-The Airing of Grievances

Titus Andronicus The Airing of Grievances:

The Killers get a BA in 20th Century literature.

Rating: 5/15 Albert Camus references

Andrew Bird-Noble Beast

Andrew Bird Noble Beast:

Indie Pop, similar to Bends era Radiohead with a better ear for catchy pop and a dash of country twang. Strong all around, but Bird’s lyrics can drift toward self parody.

Rating: 12/15 Violin loops

Carrigan – Young Men Never Die

Carrigan Young Men Never Die:

An interesting mix of guitars, drums, and electronic drones. It sounds like a less experimental Animal Collective, but that’s not the worst thing in the world.

Rating: 10/15 pleasant surprises

Celeste – Misanthrope(s)

Celeste Misanthrope(s):

Even though this is hardcore mixed with black metal, it’s still really bland and gets old quickly.

Rating: 6/15 shitty musical Reese’s cup
