Sworn In – Self Titled

Sworn In Self Titled:

This album sounds exactly like American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost. Not just sort of sounds like them, but you could play this album for A.N. Fans and they wouldn’t notice the difference. That’s not a bad thing. It’s good Hardcore that has some interesting guitars and decent melody. But there’s nothing really original here. It’s tough to praise this album since it’s just a blatant copying. This sounds more like a tribute album than one of original material. But if you really need a Give Up The Ghost fix, this band is doing the best of any other imitators out there right now.

Sluts – Self Titled

Sluts Self Titled:

What sounds doe the phrase “Boston Melodic Hardcore” invoke when you hear it? Well that’s what you get on this album. It’s nothing super bad, but really nothing genre breaking either. Meat and potatoes really. They sound like a slowed down Daggermouth to be honest. So if you like that band, you’ll dig Sluts.

God is an Astronaut-All is Violent all is Bright

God is an Astronaut All is Violent All is Bright:

Melodic instrumental post-rock, which sounds ready-made for movie soundtracks. A good listen, with some twists and turns with musical dynamics and mood shifts. Better than Explosions in The Sky.

Rating: 12/15 Better than Explosions in The Sky points

Carpathian – Isolation

Carpathian Isolation:

This is decent melodic hardcore. It does what that well, but doesn’t do anything new or different. Sometimes you don’t need to though to make an enjoyable album.

Rating: 11/15 dues with Bane Hoodies

It Prevails – Capture and Embrace

It Prevails Capture and Embrace:

Decent melodic hardcore. Doesn’t do anything new and you’ve heard the same sound plenty of other times. Still it’s not offense, just the tacks all kinda blend into one large screaming part with singing.

Rating: 9/15 chicks with snake bites and gauges.

Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3-Goodnight Oslo

Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 Goodnight Oslo:

Sweet and melodic rock provided by the Venus 3 complements the sensitive, but neurotic lyrics and singing style of Robyn Hitchcock. The music stays fairly simple allowing for the great vocal harmonies and lyrics to take precedence. Driving but moody goes well with a steering wheel in your hands.

Rating: 13/15 I wanna destroy yous

Make Do and Mend – Bodies of Water EP

Make Do and Mend Bodies of Water EP:

Really good melodic Hardcore. Intelligent lyrics are backed by decent musicianship crating an enjoyable EP. Can’t wait to hear more from this band, they seemed poised to pick up the crown of most interesting hardcore band that Modern Life Is War dropped when they broke up.

Rating: 13/15 actually interesting things to say
